Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi I have type 2 and work as a care assistant in a care home should I be going to work ( isolation) or carry on working

Hi @Malaine - Welcome to the forum. You will see many post/threads on here giving the links to official advice/guidance - maybe click on a few of those and hopefully you will have your answer. Best of luck.

As I understand things, being diabetic isnt in itself critical for self isolation, just that we are being encouranged/asked to distance ourselves i.e. not going to pubs, club social gatherings, hooking up with friends/family etc - to reduce our risk of catching anything.

However in the workplace, its a different story, especially doing a job like yours, you cant very well work from home and I can see being 'hands on' in your line of work would be a worry.....I guess you have to weigh up the risks. If you have other underlying conditions to consider. Whether or not you will be paid for taking voluntary absence from work could also be a hurdle for you? I would suggest maybe talk with your line manager.

Welcome to the forum @Malaine

The updated advice from Diabetes Uk is quite extensive and suggests that for well managed Diabetes we are no more likely to be at risk than others. At present the recommendation is social distancing.
I hope that that is of some help

Welcome to the forum @Malaine

I agree that current advice is ‘social distancing’ rather than ‘isolation’

Hope you find your way through the maze!

I work as a care assistant looking after the elderly and my husband works in theatres for the NHS
our concerns are I’mT2 diabetic and he is frontline
And worried that he might catch Covid 19 and bring it home to us and I take it into the place I work
