Hello all,

for the past month or so have been suffering aching legs and cramp in my legs, feet and toes, OUCH!! This has mainly been happening at nite, so not havin much rest. I have been on Simvastatin since DX which is some 6 years now, just wondering if its the Statins even after all this time, and trouble free thus far, any ideas?

thanks,

Shirl

Statins can cause muscle aches but could be a number of other things, worth a trip back to your GP. Good luck 🙂

Thanx for your reply, yeah will go to GP if I can get in. Just find it strange to get side effects after so long, hey ho,

Hi Shirl
when my husband was 1st put on statins after his heart attack, he was the same, they gave him some quinine (sp) tablets, but they say tonic water helps a lot,

i get the cramps too, but not on a statin🙄

If it isn't the statins (and I was on em for several years before I had my memory probs) and 'just cramp' some peeps find magnesium supplements help?

Thanx for the msgs, have got some tonic water so will give it a try, cant stand the taste tho (yuk) but I guess its better than puttin up with pain and cramps huh?

take care,

Shirl x

This sounds exactly like what I suffered from when I was on simvastatin. I would go back to your GP and he/she might try a different one or let you stop taking them for a week or two to see if this is truly the cause. 🙂

Thanks Northerner,

Can't remember what cholesterol levels were last time but were around 4 if not below. Will try to get to see diabetes doc. asap, not sleeping well :(

take care,
Shirl

I stopped taking the statins about 2 years ago and my cholesterol has been in the region of 4.5 since then. My consultant isn't concerned and didn't try to persuade me back on them, but obviously your own doctor knows whether there are other factors which mean that you might benefit from them. 🙂

Both of my gradads suffered heart attacks, 1 aunt on my dads side of the family, 2 uncles on my dads side and several on mums side all had heart attacks too and both my parents died from massive heart attacks, great huh so you could say they run in the family! :(

take care,

Shirl
