Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Dear Members,
Hi there. I am new here. I have diabetes for the last 8 years now. I was doing fine until last year. My Ha1b was 50. its rose from 42 but thought to be with asthma getting really bad. I was using steroids or inhalers at times. I was not feeling well and I was complaining about it to my GP and finally, the test was done and my now it's gone to 59. I already suffer from anxiety and other mental health issues. This has added more to my problems. I have just checked my sugar it's 17.9 even though its over tow hours since I did my breakfast. I have taken my medication too. I am very concerned and its making triggers all other illnesses and making things really worse for me.
At times my sugar level is 7.9.
I am taking metformin 500x2 twice daily and now the GP has added dapagliflozin 5mg for my diabetes.
Is this normal to have highs in 15 -20 range even after two hours.
Help me I am upset???

Thanks in advance.

Hello @sh3ikhs , welcome to the forum.
I expect you are upset and with high levels 15 + it must make you feel really rough .
Are you still on the steroids ?
What inhalers are you using as some can affect your blood glucose levels adversely as can steroids.
If you could could give us an idea of a typical days meals and snacks it will help us give you more appropriate advise based on what has worked for us.

hi there. I am on Salbutamol, fostair 200/6 and braltus. I have a rescue pack which you can say used once every 6-8 weeks.
Bf i have one slice and fried egg or oatmeal and black coffee
lunch I have one chupatti with some curry
dinner one chupatti and some curry.

very simple diet.

Well you don't eat a vast array of different things, but it doesn't show any evidence of how much carbohydrate you are consuming either or that you have reduced it. Your blood glucose is affected by how much carbohydrate we eat, in the main.

The day starts with a slice of fried bread - carb in the bread. Carb in the oatmeal.

Try testing your BG before breakfast and again 90-120 mins after. You are looking for an increase of no more than 3.0.

Hi there. It was fried egg not bread anyways. I did my fasting test it was 8.9 and then after 2 hours I did it and today 12.3. Its loads better than what scary figures I was seeing past few months now. I ate the same stuff to make sure that I dont cheat .
One thing what I did was take medication before having bf to check if that helps and it seems like helping. It's first day I have changed the pattern now I will do like this and see how things are. Thanks for your help. Basically I was having the same food over the years when my levels were 42 and now 59. There has been increase in lot of stress as my asthma getting really bad. Slipped of the snow while going for Dr appointment and damaging my back tissues. It's more like stress playing big part than good itself.
Any suggestions will be welcomed and need guidance.

I have been Diabetic nearly 20 years and I have found over the years I have to re-evalute what and how much of what I eat.
If you have had worsen of your Astma and a Back injury that will not have helped, either.

Anywhere you or I happen to have inflammation in our body, can increase our blood glucose, so will stress. Hence asthma can do it (irritated breathing organs) as can pulled muscles and/or bruising, broken bones etc - any mishap or medical condition.

We virtually bounced when we were toddlers and tumbled over, didn't we? Over the years whoever we happen to be - HM the Queen or a binman - we bounce less - because our bodies change. We aren't doing anything 'wrong' to cause this - it's just life and we need to adapt to it!

Trying to adapt by the time get used to it there is further change either in sugar or asthma which is now COPD. The things doesn't remain constant. It's not just physical issues it's also mental health issues.
Itching all of sudden starts all over the body and don't know what to do check sugar it's okay at times but then why itching is it dryness of the skin or allergy have no clue.
I hope things become stable as I need some peace in my life its becoming very irritating and difficult.
Thanks for helping feels like sharing to my extended family as my immediate family has no idea what I am going through.

Sorry to hear that you are struggling @sh3ikhs

Needing steroids for your Asda is likely to make your diabetes harder to manage unfortunately, because steroids raise BG levels. Mental health challenges must make things harder for you too :(

Sounds like you may need to go back to your Diabetes Nurse to check whether the new medication is working well. Alternatively, you could try reducing your carbohydrate intake, which may also help a little?

I don't have any practical advice at all I'm afraid, but from your posts it definitely is obvious that you are struggling. So I just wanted to say that you are not alone - I'm not doing so well mentally myself at the moment so I understand the feelings. Like I say, I have no advice I'm afraid, I just wanted to reach out in support 🙂

Dealing with this condition is hard, no doubt about that, but we can do it

Highly appreciated. It means a lot to me. I can't thank enough. It feels like sharing something with extended family. I am really down physically and mentally too. Trying to keep thing moving somehow.

At least we can come on here and "talk" about it with others that understand.....this is my therapy at the moment!
