Is this odd - for dinner tonight I had steamed salmon, a small amount of new potatoes and sprouts...yummmm

I didn't test immediately before dinner but have tested an hour and a half after and my sugars are 4.7? Should I eat something to bring it up higher?

Nope! That's fine - and with your other numbers you have posted recently suggests that you body is now coping really well with your diet! 🙂

Thank you - will my sugars drop any further?

If you were on meds, then it would suggest that you need to maybe reduce them but as you're still D&E, as Northerner says, you're spot on.🙂

It may rise a bit later on due to the salmon lowering the GI and delaying the carb spike. But it probably won't be much of one.🙂

I couldn't have a hypo could I? Or is it a hyper?

You could have a reactive hypo (?) if your resitance was really high and your pancreas squirted a load of insulin at your carbs, and kept squirting more because it wasn't lowering the BG. Then, by the time it starts to lower, you've got a gallon of insulin in your bloodstream and your BG drops through the floor.

Otherwise, I don't think you can. 🙂

But you could have a hyper. ANything above 'normal' technically. Say, about 8 or 9+. But normally a hyper is considered to be more like maybe 12+.

ENjoy your success.🙂

In reality doubtful? should I eat anything before going to bed?

If you're not happy Amanda, then test before bed, but if by that time you are at 4 to 5 then you will be fine. This is perfectly normal for someone who doesn't have diabetes, or (like you!) has well controlled diabetes without medication. 🙂

If you want to.🙂

Without meds, and excluding any other conditions or developments, you shouldn't go below the high 3s and will probably wake in the high 4s or 5s.

If you eat some protein/fat it may help to stop your liver raising your BG in the morning beyond the 5s.

You shouldn't need any carbs but if they're low GI they should just trickle your bloodstream and be gone by morning.

Beyond that I can't really say.🙂

I have just eaten a small plum, more to stop my stomach rumbling...:D will test before I go to bed. Had a good wake up result this morning - another 4.7.🙂 normally 5.3-5.4. Really appreciate your help; I'm a born worrier...🙄

Recognise when you're doing well. And keep doing it ! :D

If you can keep your resistance that low for as long as poss, it may delay meds for a long time yet. But when they're needed, just see it as a progression and apply the same rules and philosophy but use the meds to assist. Exercise and the right carbs are always the way to go.

The high 4's is something that my non-diabetic wife will hit after a large slice of chocolate cake.

That's not saying that suddenly you have become non-diabetic but it does mean that your body is dealing well with that meal (because it has a fraction of the carb's of a large chocolate cake).

Those on insulin are I recall recommended to stay above 5 because the basal insulin could in theory take them to a night hypo if they are much lower (or that was how it was explained to me).

Blooming brilliant I'd say!

Don't let it frighten you. You were never frightened before you were diabetic, were you!

Pretty much Mark. And the vagueries of the liver and insulin merry go round mean that a 1-2mmol fluctuation can happen without much control. So 5 or 6 at bedtime gives a buffer to help with sound sleeping. Those pumps may be confident enough to go a bit lower but not sure.🙂

with a reading like that i would have had a wee snack before bed but then again i suffer from the dawn phenomena ... if my bs is < 5.0 at bed i have a small ..one slice folded peanut butter or marmite sandwich with a small glass of milk ..then i wake about 6.2 ...rather than 7.2 ...but we are all different ...🙂

Personally, to me, it sounds like your weight loss has done the trick for you. 🙂

I'm like you in that 2hrs after breakfast I'm hovering around 4mmol/L. Personally, I take that to mean that I'm perfectly Ok now. If I feel hungry when that happens I usually have a small snack. If I don't feel hungry, then I won't.

However, I do know that I'm not quite so responsive later in the day, so I am still susceptable to the nasty D and need to take care more often than not.

Well done!!

Andy 🙂
