Is there a correlation between Glaucoma and Diabetes/Metabolic Disease?

Do any of you have Glaucoma? I have a family relative recently diagnosed at the age of 43. They have had gestational diabetes before. Do you think there could be a correlation? I also have another relative at 73 who is a type 1 diabetic who has it. Does anyone know anything about Glaucoma and its relation to diabetes?

Yes, there’s an increased risk of glaucoma if you have diabetes. I’d read it doubled the risk but Diabetes U.K. say it increases by one and a half:

Yes there is an association between diabetes and glaucoma, twice as likely to get glaucoma. Also diabetic retinopathy can lead on to a type of glaucoma.
