Iv been experiencing frequent fatigue, urination and have been curious if i have some type of sugar problem due to the more sugar i eat the worse it gets.
I recorded my glucose via home kit every 5 mins after eating a few sushi rolls for the following 4 hours to see what kind of effects are taking place.
If people could comment on what my response is like i would much appreciated it.
The first measurement is the baseline of 5.2
Measured in mmol

Cheers.

Hi Danofdanger, welcome to the forum 🙂 Some foods will hit your levels faster than others, and non-diabetics can record similar levels to those you have posted. All forms of carbohydrate will convert to glucose and raise blood sugar levels, not just sugar - in fact white bread will probably raise levels faster than table sugar because it needs fewer processes in the body to convert it to glucose. So, bread, potatoes, rice, pasta, pies, pastries, cakes etc. can all raise your levels to a greater or lesser degree.

However, since you are also reporting other symptoms it would be worth getting checked out by your GP. A diagnosis will normally be made if two fasting results of 7.0 mmol/l are taken, or a value above 11.1 mmol/l two hours after an Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT). Do you have any close relatives with diabetes?

Hi there,
No diabetics in the family that i know of, i have seen my gp and had fasting glucose tests which average around 4mmol. Same as what i get when i test at home.

Cheers for the info.

What I would suggest is that, even though you have not been diagnosed as diabetic, you follow a regime that would be suitable for someone with diabetes. This doesn't mean a restrictive diet - everything is allowed in moderation - but you choose food that will have a slow and steady impact on your blood sugar levels. A diet that is healthy for diabetics is healthy fr everyone. I'd recommend looking at the GL (Glycaemic Load) diet - The GL Diet for Dummies is a good introduction. Doing this should help to relieve some of your symptoms and hopefully reduce your risks of getting diagnosed in the future. Regular exercise is also very helpful in managing your blood sugar levels, so find something you enjoy, that is practical and fits into your daily life, and stick at it! 🙂

Hello there.

Darn that was a lot of testing you did there!!

Point to note. You can save yourself some money and just test prior to a meal and then 1hr and 2hrs after (or just the 1hr or 2hr).

If done over several days and for different carb intakes, that will give you all the information that you need.

But as Northerner says, if you continue to be worried, get yourself off to the GP again. The previous fasting glucose tests would seem to be normal though. But perhaps your pancreas was behaving then!

Andy 🙂

Thanks andy, i had already been following a low glycemic diet for the past week using my meter to judge what foods are safe. Iv been keeping my levels under 6 post 2 hours.
If someone with type 2 diabetes is suffering from fatigue how long does it usually take to get things better ?

Difficult to answer that question, because it is probably different for different people.

My complete lack of energy was sorted almost immediately following diagnosis and treatment. However, whilst my body acclimatised to the new 'normal' blood glucose levels, I had frequent bouts of feeling very weak. They passed after a few months.

Andy 🙂

As you are T2 it might work for you but it deff doesn't work like that for me. Your panc will still be working x %. I find if I worried / thinking hard about things my bg goes down. If it was that easy we all would be making graphs etc. Good luck with what you are doing 🙂
