Was on 1 metformin a day for for days, then upped to two a day which I have been in a week....yesterday and today had terrible stomach upsets, trying to work out if a bug or the drug 🙂)) but had imagined that as was fine for quite a few days why now is it causing me trouble?

Hi there,

Yes it more then likely wll be, alot of us have renamed metformin to metfartin it can cause terrible trouble to your tummy, if it continues for more then 2 weeks i'd go back to the GP for advice x

If you read the pacient infoprmation leaflet that comes with the pills it mentions there about those issues x

Do you take the metformin with or after food? It lessens the effects. If they don't clear up in a week or two see your doctor.

Difficult to say -as there are some terrible bugs going around too. As has been said already make sure you take with food and try and take at same time each day. If you still have the problem in a few days I would suggest discussing with GP. Hope you feel better soon x

Am getting my fasting blood result fri at gps so will mention it

There's a 'slow release' version which is a but gentler on the tum I think. Some people also seem to find that the tummy trouble clears after a while.

Hope you get some good advice/help on Friday

I was ok for about a week but then it took a couple of months to calm down. However, it has calmed down so I am glad I stuck at it.
