Hi,

I have been having some symptoms recently and doctor google suggest's it could be low blood sugar, but before hassling doctors I thought maybe somebody with real experience may offer some insights.

I am 30 years old and before lockdown I did not really have the best diet a lot of fast food, I quit cigs in Jan 2019 and I had been on the vape since then. Only positive was I used to exercise quite a lot, quite physical stuff(easily >4 hours/week).

Since lockdown started, I have been at home(WFH), the exercise levels dropped massively to hardly anything. I have been glued to my desk to be honest and barely anything in terms of exercise, not even the usual walks during work(walking during lunch and to/from the car as we dont have a car park). I managed to stop vaping and that has been at least 5 months now and diet has improved leaps and bounds. There is the occasional takeaway but no more skipping breakfast, all the food is cooked at home, wholemeal breads, fruit, very little sugar. Pretty much the diet they tell you should have.

I drink tea/coffee and while I dont mind if it does/does not have sugar, depending on who does the tea run at home there may be different levels of sugar. I find that if I eat anything with sugar (time: ~3pm) around 1 - 2 later I will be really irritable, in a very bad mood for absolutely no reason at all. More recently this is accompanied by trembling. It passes itself within the hour and the trembling only lasts around 15 minutes.

There is no history of diabetes in my family and I don't really have any of the symptoms of diabetes, other than this "sugar crash". I wouldn't say the amount of sugar is that great either, enough for me to notice it sweet but not enough for me to say, this is too sweet.

I appreciate the only way would be to speak to a doctor, which I will try to but would be good to get an idea if this is just in all my head. Sugar has probably been the biggest thing I have cut out during lockdown, is it possible insulin sensitive has increased that much to cause crashing.

Diabetes is a condition of high blood sugar not low (although insulin and a few medications can cause low blood sugar).

There is something called reactive hypoglycaemia but it’s not common and slightly ‘controversial’.

Perhaps your blood sugar just dropped slightly to the lower end of normal, and that’s what you’re feeling? Or perhaps there’s another cause eg too much caffeine, etc, etc Or perhaps even you’re sensitive to this now because your routine has changed.

If you’re concerned, you could buy a blood glucose meter and test your blood sugar when you feel the trembling, but personally I would just monitor it and maybe adjust your food/drink slightly to see if that helps eg have a cracker and cheese with your cup of tea, etc

Obviously if you feel ill, you should consult a doctor for medical input.

Hi @nhussain03 . Welcome to the forum . TBH the best thing you can do is have a chat with your Gp. Initially due to Corvid, this will likely be over the phone then they may request you go for a blood test.
That way you will no for sure whether or not you have diabetes, unless of course you already have the diagnosis .
