Has anyone had to deal with iron defficient anemia. The new blood cells being made are a small odd shape. I think I will be getting for a transfusion. Any advice would be really great. I'm really worried.

can't offer any advice, but hope you get treatment soon.

Have you talked about other possible treatments apart from the blood transfusion? I have been told blood transfusions help greatly and you will feel better for it.

My old dad sometimes needs a transfusion due to anemia, his is to do with his kidney failure, they think he has a small "leak" & as he is also on iron tablets they think he loses it well not to put to fine a point on it when he visits the loo!!.

He has the transfusion in hospital, generally it takes 8(for 2 units) hours to have 1 & they do it overnight. He normally has more energy after, & has improved his overall health.

Thankfully he hasn't needed 1 for some time. The transfusion dad needs is normally whole blood, sometimes the transfusion can I understand be for just a part of it depending on what's needed.

It's not something I have any experience of, but just want to wish you well 🙂 Try not to worry, I am sure you will feel much better once you have had the treatment {{{spiritfree}}}

Don't know anything about it although have had a blood transfusion and was surprised how easy it was ( i was really nervous ) and how much better I felt afterwards.

Do they know what caused it?

My grandfather had this type of anaemia. He too was given blood transfusions from time to time (about every 6 months) and was always so much better after them although there was a slow decline in between as his condition was chronic. He lived to be 87. Hope it goes well for you, sending you a hug ()

I've had it done a few times when the duodenal ulcer was at it's worst and I needed transfused as a result of the bleeding. My only problem was getting enough blood as I have a fairly rare blood group. The transfusion itself was never a problem.
