Welcome to the forum @davidG

Sorry to hear that you are facing extra challenges in managing your diabetes because of your mental health :(

I hope you can find management strategies that work well for you without triggering your mental health conditions.

While fingerprick monitoring can be very helpful, it is by no means essential for everyone, and while many find it is a central part of their ‘diabetes toolkit’ we also have members who choose not to check their BG - so be kind to yourself and don’t give yourself a hard time.

Do you take any medication for your diabetes? BG checks can help to keep you safe if you are using certain medications, so that you can check your levels if you have symptoms of hypoglycaemia.

What sorts of things are you eating? Reducing the amount of carbohydrates in your diet can be a very helpful strategy. All carbohydrates (not just sweet and sugary things) have the potential to raise your BG levels, so it can be helpful to reduce or moderate your carbohydrate input as part of your diabetes management.

Keep asking questions, and let us know how you are getting on 🙂

Welcome to the forum David from a fellow T2.

Welcome, David, and hope you will find a lot of help and encouragement here in the forum 🙂

With your additional challenges, it may be worth asking if you can be given the Libre sensors so that you can scan the sensor instead of doing a finger prick (even as a T2). (I am aware that applying the sensor may also present a challenge, but you may be able to accept that one every two weeks, or perhaps someone could apply it for you?) Certainly, holding a phone over the sensor (although I find that the little reader scans even easier - my phone has a leather covered 'shell' which reduces the scanning ability) is lovely. Seeing the data in the various graphs also gives a good picture of what is happening.

It is all a challenge, but we are all ready to offer support and encouragement to help you overcome this 🙂
