Hello,

My husband (keltic) has been recently diagnosed as having type 2 so we have both joined this forum in the hope of learning more. At the moment he is trying to control it through diet which I have to admit to finding a little confusing, it seems that so much can trigger his levels off so it's all about trial and error. He has cut out all sweets and sugar, eats at regular times and uses only soya milk etc and that seems to be helping.

I want to help support him but without being overbearing.

I'm sure I can learn from here.

Hi & welcome.

I was told to cut out carbs where possible ie have a full sunday roast but without potatoes.. have found out that roast butternut squash tastes nicer than roast potatoes!

Hello and welcome! All forms of carbohydrate get converted to glucose in the blood, so it's not just sugar, but more complex carbs will convert more slowly and cause less of a 'peak'. I'd suggest looking at some of the books in the Recommended Books section of the forum. I think 'Diabetes for Dummies' is a good one, and there is also a good one about the first yar as a Type 2 (can't remember name offhand).

There is a lot to learn, but you will both get there and hopefully will find it leads to a better diet and healthier lifestyle all round! Anything you are unsure of, please do ask - there is a wealth of experience here!🙂
