ive just been out shopping with a friend. Whilst we were walking every few minutes I got a sudden pain in my right ankle and the ankle felt weak. This happened several times and then stopped. Then when I was walking from the car to the house it started again. Any thoughts please? I last had cocodamol (for something else) about 4.5 hours before this happened.

Trapped nerve? A little gentle rotation of your foot either way and up/down whilst sitting might help, but dunno.

Thanks Jenny. There's no pain at all when sitting, just when I'm walking.

It's no consolation but I've got the same thing on top of my foot. As soon as I weightbear it's painful. A bit swollen too! Just hoping it sorts itself out soon.

LindaRose im sorry to hear. I hope that it improves soon.

I have the same thing as you Linda on the top of my left foot and it's also swollen.

John.

Amanda, I have ankle pain quite a lot almost like someone scraping my ankle with needles, but when sat with my feet up, the pain goes, I've been told it's nerve damage. Hope yours clears up and you have no more problems.

John

Thank you John. I have to admit that I'm concerned that mine is nerve damage.

Hi Grovesy no I haven't but that's what the pain is like when it hurts when I'm walking.

It was a good suggestion. Sorry to hear you often go over on yours.

To add to your tale of woes, Amanda.... I can tell you that based on a lifetimes experience of dodgy ankles it is no fun not to be able to walk properly.

The other week I developed an issue with my left foot which appears to be nerve related, waiting for a consult to a neurologist..... In the interim I have to wear an ankle brace to stop my foot flapping about when I walk😱 Other symptoms are numbness across the top of my foot.

I have had the same issue intermittently. It is weird and very painful for a short time, and then it goes. One suggestion has been that I catch a tendon on a small nodule which then releases. It does not explain the weakness, so possibly no help.

I was suggesting very gentle frequent ankle exercises, to try and prevent it happening - not to cure it when it does! (though if it's a nerve or tendon catching, who knows, it might)

Thankyou Martin, SB2015 and Jenny. Martin I'm so sorry that you're having those problems. Jenny apologies for the confusion. I now understand what you mean and that makes complete sense. Thank you.

All about keeping your joints properly mobile AJ - I've circled my ankles almost every single night after I've got in bed for decades - it's just one of the 'suppleness' exercises a damn good aerobics teacher (Loughborough trained PE teacher, now otherwise at home looking after their young daughters) used to have us do during the 'calm down' session at the end of every class. 30 years ago now!

And I've noticed, quite often after I've walked or just been on my feet etc, I feel and hear quite a lot of 'clicking' going on in the ankle joints - so I'm convinced it helps keeping everything where it should be. I just do a bit more after the clicking to try and make sure everything really is back where it should be. And of course - anything that stretches your muscles gently, and then relaxes again in between, has got to be good for you generally.
