Hi,

Recently diagnosed with Type 2 and feeling a little overwhelmed still.

It's dawned on me that my life insurance will probably be void. Does everyone have problems getting life insurance now? Are there are companies that are good for providing it?

Thanks in advance.

If you are not prescribed medication insurance companies aren't worried.
I was concerned about my travel insurance but with a HbA1c of 52 and diet control only the broker checked and told me "it wasn't high enough to cause concern".

Why on earth would your life insurance be void Ally...you need to check your policy to see what it says about medical conditions...or a change in your circumstances...then you can speak to your insurers...assuming you did not know you were T2 diabetic when you took out the policy so there should be some discretion for those unexpected circumstances...in addition there are many type 2s (and type 1s) who are able manage/control their blood sugars and live a healthy productive long life...a type 2 diagnosis does not mean imminent death...so don't panic😉...read the policy & speak to your insurers

That's reassuring! Thanks. I think I've just over thinking everything at the moment. I have my first appointment with the nurse tomorrow, so hopefully will feel better and reassured about things then.

That's understandable Ally...I hope the appointment goes well tomorrow...and gives you some reassurance...if you have any questions on the information you are given then post them here...I'm sure one of us can provide the answer...offer some advice or guidance...some of us have has less than satisfactory reviews/appointments with our health care professionals...if you have any concerns or queries about the advice you are given...there are many experienced type 2s here who would be more than happy to give you the benefit of their experience...good luck.

They can't do anything whatever - as long as you answered truthfully about your health on the day you signed up for the cover and they accepted it plus they accepted the premium(s) - whatever happens to your health thereafter is of absolutely no concern to the insurer.

If it is an annually renewable policy - such as Accident & Sickness or Household - then we have to confirm every year that all relevant details are still the same - and renewal is only invited on that basis, at whatever premium the insurer happens to reckon is appropriate.

'Whole Life' cover isn't renewable!
