Type 2
Hey guys ,
I have been Type 2 since 2009, started with Gestational with both my boys and now my pancreas has given up the ghost!!! So now on long acting and as of yesterday on fast acting, my question to those on insulin is how you calculate your carbs and units of insulin. I am sure my DN will go through it but just trying to get a head start, any suggestions will help!

Thanks Guys

Welcome to the forum @Pugsley101

I know that there are a number of T2s on here who have found life a lot easier once out on insulin.
Which insulin’s are you using.

As for finding a carb to insulin ratio, I suspect that it will be different for each of us. I was started in a ratio that the DSN would be a best fit, and then gradually adjusted this to suit what I need. At the start I used a variety of resources to calculate the carbs in my meals including:
- the info on the packets of ingredients, and weighing them
- using Carbs and Cals which is a book with pictures of portions and you look for the best match. This is also available as an app on the phone, which is good for when I am out for meals.
I now remember quite a lot of info, in contrast to the start where I knew absolutely nothing about carbs.

I don’t know how it works for T2, as I know that you will still be producing some insulin yourself. However there is plenty of support and experience available on here and I am sure a helpful T2 will be along.

I hope that that helps.
