Hi everyone,

Been feeling a bit under the weather a bit for a few days and my IBS has flared up a little.

With the Coronavirus circulating I thought I best add I don’t have a fever or a cough or breathing issues just feel crappy.

Obviously I know high BG could make me feel like this and my BG is running high but I don’t know why.

Carb counting and correction dosages are not working, counted my carbs for lunch, worked out the insulin and added a correction dose and 2 hours later my BG is high still but actually creeped up by 2.0.

What should I do?

Some find they need to increase basal and bolus doses during illness just to keep steady even at a higher level
xx

I am sorry to hear you are not well, I hope you feel better soon.
I like others here find amongst other things that illness affects my levels .
Would you mind saying how high you BG levels are .
Are you able to test for ketones.

I will see if I can find the sick day rules for you .
Please whatever you do, don’t stop taking your insulin.

Hello Mark

Sorry you’ve been feeling grim.

The Sickday rules that @Ljc posted is a great starting resource, so take a look at that for hints about managing the BG rises that illness can cause.

Just to add that at 2hours it seems likely that your food would be full-on, but that your insulin and correction would still have at least half of its oomph left. I would be inclined to wait until nearer 4 hours before considering adding any more insulin into the mix.

Hope you feel better soon.

Hi @MarkGeordie - sorry to hear you are not feeling well - I dont know much about T1 but will ask a quesiton - are you well hydrated? drinking enough water - especially important when we are under the weather with elevated readings ( & poss stomach upsets) Just a thought. Hope you get well soon - stay warm.

Well - does sound like you may be sickening for something that hasn't yet become apparent, so why not tentatively increase your doses a little?
