Hi Liz,
Please excues late join to the thread. I agree with TW on move to 15g for end result of less insulin per meal.

The 1u/10g ratio seems quite agressive for new T1's (at least in first few weeks). In my case, they started with 1u to 45g, then over course of 2-3 weeks we worked down to 30g, 20g and so-on based on high readings....eventually settling somewhere around 12-15g per every unit of Humalog. The basal dosage didn't change as much - increased from 12u to 15u once per day.

On the basal front - now pumping, I've found if basal's too strong my bg's run lower and it also causes "over responsive" bolus - at times haven't needed bolus where I normally should. That's been the case since increased phys activity, causing recent fine-tuning of basal.

Hope the fruit pastilles saw you through the night, Laura?

Sorry no proper internet at home, having issues! Just getting a mo' to reply properly.

I was 7.8 when I woke up that morning, so it was ok. I'd set a 3am alarm bu fell asleep before doing it(! - very tired with waking children recently!) and ended up doing it at 4am when I woke again, and it was 7.2 I think then....

Aah, thankyou for that! All makes sense to me now :D

What should be the lowest number I ought to expect after 2hrs? At the moment i'm getting 4's and 5's! Sounds great but doesn't keep me going obviously...

I will try out the basal thing, are glucose tablets a reasonable measure? Would I do it without having eaten that day?

Liz, what insulins are you on out of interest?🙂

I'm just on novorapid at the moment 🙂 Supposed to be taking 4 units with breakfast lunch and dinner but considering what I eat that can be far too much so i'm sort of doing it to what I 'think' it ought to be.

It definately helped that I have always been used to testing up to 4x a day as I know how I generally react to different foods. I'd definately recommned recording everything in detail Laura! I do mine in excel, taking into account activity, foods, trying to record carbs, now insulin units and BS readings 🙂
