they have stopped my insulin and put me on Byretta just wondered if many others are on this and would be willing to share their experiences

No stories about Byetta, but I suppose a well done is in order, as coming off the insulin is brilliant..........:D

Hi Gail, I've been on it for a few months now and am doing fairly well though I do need something in addition as it's not enough on its own. I've had far less problems with it than anything else they've tried on me so far and I'm actually happy with it Steff had it for a while too but it didn't work for her and she's on Victoza now. There are a few others around who are also on the stuff, I'm sure they'll be along soon.

When did you start it and how are you coping with it? Are you settled in your new place?

Hi Gail. I've been on Byetta since April and so far it's working very well for me. I've not lost any weight but it has brought my levels down brilliantly and I've had no side effects. I still take 2 x 500g Metformin per day but I've been able to reduce my Gliclazide from 3 to one tablet per day. My last HbA1c was a lovely 6.3 too.

As far as I know, and in simple terms, Byetta works by slowing down your digestion, curbing your appetite and helping your pancreas make it's own insulin more effectively. You are normally started off on the lower 5 mu dose for 4 weeks and then moved onto the 10 mu dose which is the highest. I think this is to let your tummy get used to it gradually because of the possible side effects.

It can help with weight loss, but as I said I've not lost any. It can also cause nausea and sickness in some people for a while. I've not had that either. As you are already used to injecting, that wont be a problem for you.

I really hope it works for you hunni. XXXXX
