I use around 100 units of Novorapid daily. 1 unit for 3 carbs. I know that it is high but that is just me . I am trying to work out my insulin sensitivity. Please help me, if you can.

How do you define 3 carbs - 3g weight of carb?

If so, it is 1:3.

Hence, 10u to 30g and 3.33u to 10g carb.

I am sorry, Trophywench, I must be really thick. I don't know what you mean. I take 1 unit of insulin for 3 - 4 carbs.

Some people saying they’re having “3 carbs” and they mean they’re having 3g of carbs, but others say they’re having “3 carbs” and they mean 3 portions of carbs, with each ‘portion’ being 10g. So they’re actually have 30g carbs in total.

I think you mean 1 unit of insulin for 3g of carbs - is that right?

What do you mean about your insulin sensitivity? Do you mean for correction doses (ie how many mmols 1 unit of insulin drops you) or do you mean something else?

Yes,1 unit for 3 carbs correction

?? I don’t understand what that means. Are you asking about correcting your blood sugar when it’s high, or are you asking about your meal ratio, or is it something else?

What do you want to know?

I am trying to work out insulin sensitivity for correction, on pump.
Do you have assistance from your diabetes team?
I ask because it is not the same with a pump as it is when injecting. I need less insulin with my pump compared to injecting.

I was told mine by my team. There might be a way you can work it out yourself but it would be safest to check with your DSN.

Hopefully you can speak to your DSN next week @spiritfree

The pair of values that many people are started on are 1u to 10g of carbs, and 1u reduces BG by 3mmol/L. Those seem to fit together. Not sure if that’s any help?
