Is there a way to determine which of the above I am?
Do they go hand in hand, or is it one or the other?

If you need to take a lot of insulin, or are type 2 not on insulin, then most likely insulin resistant

If you take insulin and need low doses then you are insulin sensitive
 
Type 2, not on insulin.So probably insulin resistant.
