I am on a course tomorrow and wont be able to get home quickly ; and am forward panicking as usual.

My mum has harry all day tomorrow and if there was a problem with his pump and she had to inject with the pen, what carb ratio to insulin would she use. Is it the same (1 to 10) as before he went on the pump?

Obviously now he is on the pump he is on far less insulin than he was on injections.

To other parents: is it just me or do you worry about every scenario !

thanks once again

Helen

In this situation, I tend to disconnect the pump, use the bolus wizard to work out the bolus needed (so yes, I'd use the pump ratios), and then round up or down to the nearest half unit. I give the pen injection and also run the bolus through the disconnected pump, so that it gets recorded as "active insulin".

Redkite, that's a brill bit of advice for all ages of pumper!

Mind if I link to this thread (with the appropriate thanks and acknowledgement of course) for the pumpers on another diabetes forum? (one that Northerner approves of, LOL)

Yes of course you can! I'm sure it was a tip someone gave me way back when 🙂
