Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I am type 2 myself, for more than 15 years.
my husband has been type 2 for 5 years.
His reading was 50, so the diabetic nurse told him to stop the half Metformin that he was taking.
since then he has developed a heart problem, AF.
randomly he tested his sugar levels and it was over 20!
Now he is back on 3 Metformin a day, and today has had his first insulin injection.
life seems suddenly to have become really complicated and really hard work.
Any tips anyone?

Well, perhaps you could cut the carbohydrates in both your diets since it's only carbs that diabetics of every Type have trouble with?

Hello @Janetwest
Welcome to the forum, and I hope we can be of some help, you certainly have a lot to deal with at the momment.

Living with Diabetes can be difficult, and there is no 'one size fits all' solution.
What advice have you previously been given, and do you follow any particular eating plans?
It does all take time to find what’s right for you and adjust your lifestyle, and because of your husband's recent problems, maybe it is the right time to review this?

Many of us on the forum find that reducing are carbohydrates helps to keep are blood sugar levels down, but there are other good solutions.
Personally as well as cutting out all the sugary things, I cut down on the carbs particularly the ‘white’ ones (white bread and flour, rice, pasta, etc ) and mainly eat fresh fish and poultry and have learned to love vegetables (although that took a while!). I also try to avoid too much processed food, and to include plenty of fibre some from the veg, plus seeds and pulses.
Maggie Davey's letter, gives a lot of information on how this lady approached the problem.

I don't have any experience regarding indulin injections, but there are many forum members that do, so if you have any questions on this please ask, about this or anything else you are concerned about.

Hi, what about the insulin is making you overwhelmed? The actual injecting? The monitoring? Just yet another thing to think of? We can help you work through your emotions and practicalities. Is he doing his own injections? Anything new will take a little while to get used to but you can do it.
