So 6 weeks ago asked to try Fiasp, letter sent from clinic to gp to prescribe 4 vials to trial, after 2 weeks call from surgery saying gp wants to do insulin review & phone appointment booked to discuss.

Dr asked queried insulins on prescription, told them Novorapid pen cartridges were needed as back up as are Lantus pens, Novorapid vials what use in pump, request for Fiasp was to try it out to see if it could reduce waiting time before eating. All good said no problem with request & will send prescription direct to pharmacy for Fiasp vials.

Prescription eventually arrived opened bag to find Novorapid vials, phoned surgery spoke with gp who apologised & said he'd send another prescription out to pharmacy for Fiasp vials, waited again then prescription arrived containing box of 5 Fiasp pen cartridges.

Will use them up to try but wanted vials not cartridges.

I had endless problems with my surgery like that. They just couldn’t understand the whole pump/pen thing. I used to have to not only order what I wanted but actually write “VIAL” in capital letters in the Notes box.

It’s very frustrating!

Good suggestions writing Vial in notes, will do that in future.

No they dont get why we need cartridges as back up, cant complain about them otherwise.

Well you can fill a pump reservoir from a 3ml cartridge, or at least you can with the filling system on a Roche Combo pump, OK the 'collar' doesn't fit snuggly around a pen cartridge cos it's a smaller diameter than a vial, but you can still get the insulin into the reservoir - just fiddlier.

Any way you're lucky you get back up cartridges. I am allowed ONE Novo Flexpen. OK I don't need it very often, but when I do I have to have one jab straight out the fridge and then put it back in the fridge ready for next time, which will probably be months away unless the next cannula site fails too.
