has has anyone else had these injections? My first one is on September 23rd. I saw the eye nurse today and she was very reassuring but I am petrified having had painful eye procedures before. The nurse said that I may need the injections every 4-6 weeks for life😱 it appears that although the actual injection is not long each session involves nearly four hours at the hospital followed by 12 hours away from light - she suggested that even the tv would be too much. Also found out via two sight tests and a scan that my eye has worsened since Tuesday. To quote the nurse I need the injections otherwise I will go blind😱 but I'm trying to focus on the good things in life:D

All I can do is keep my fingers crossed for you. ((((HUG))))

Did the nurse say why it takes 4 hours at the hospital? If you're lucky, it might be because they give you the kind of sedation that makes you forget the whole thing. I hope so.

Thanks LeeLee. She explained what happens but when I asked she said they don't give sedatives or anything else apart from numbing the eye with drops. She said that the most nervous patients tended to get complications because they were so atressed because it affected blood pressure etc but her only suggestion was deep breathing

Aawww Amanda I do feel for you. You are braver person than me I coudn't do it without a G A. Thinking of you take care
Sheena xxxxxx

Thank you Sheena it's lovely to hear from you xxxxxx

Thank you Jalapino🙂

I can really understand your trepidation Amanda :( The memory of that bad experience is bound to be with you, with what they are proposing. However, it's a different procedure for a different reason, and there will be different people involved. I still feel bad about dental procedures due to some terrible experiences in childhood, but my dentist is so skilled that I know I can trust him. Try to place trust in those treating you rather than letting past experiences haunt you. I know this is far easier said than done though - I hope that, once the first one is over you will feel much more relaxed about future ones, knowing more about what it all entails. {{{Hugs}}}

Thank you Alan what you say is exactly right. I'm feeling more accepting about it this morning. I'm also trying to come up with strategies to calm me down and trying to compartmentalise it so that it doesn't impact on the rest of my life. Hugs are really appreciated and help lots🙂

I hope all goes well and after it's done you'll be wondering why you worried.

Thank you Caroline, I hope you are right

I can understand your worry totally, makes me feel like a real wimp moaning about the gastroscopy! I hope you find a way to calm your nerves and hopefully it will be a lot better than expected.

Thank you Newbs. You were very brave having the gastroscopy. I'm the wimp - I've got an appointment with the GP tomorrow morning so hope they will be able to help. I keep trying to focus on positive things but I'm not being very successful at the moment

I saw my GP today. She was really lovely and sympathetic and gave me a prescription for Valium to take before the injections

Hello Amanda

I have problems with my eyes too . I can really understand , that you are very scared . Some years ago when I had a lot of laser , it came to a point when it was very painful . They decided to give me an anaestetic right into both corner of my eye . I can assure you it is not painful , it is only the shock in the first moment when it happened . When you have valium you will be absolutely fine .
There is no pain , it is only the idea that something can hurt our eyes and that makes it so awful .
I' ve got a macula odema in my good eye , which will be treated in October with laser again .
The injections will be the next if the laser has failed . So you see ( how funny ) you are not alone .

Hi Gabriele thank you so much for sharing your experiences and the reassurance. That's really lovely of you and very reassuring. I'm sorry to hear that you've got macula odema in your good eye and hope that they can successfully treat it with the laser and that this time it isn't painful for you xx
