Sometimes it's not always possible to inject before meals & you find you have to inject immediately before ie when the meal is in front of you - is this ok?

At work, I have to inject after I've eaten, just in case I get called away before actually eating. Again not ideally but it's life.

Hi @Steve_H I've just started a thread about injecting after

The optimum timings of injections is quite a personal thing I think.

Mostly people seem to find it beneficial to give the insulin a bit of a head start 10-20 minutes. But this can be different at different times of day.

I often don’t need to prebolus for my evening meals, but I definitely do at breakfast and less so but also a bit at lunch.

And as you say, sometimes it just isn‘t possible.

When I used to eat out say at at restaurant or cafe, I always injected as my meal arrived as I had been caught out once when my meal was delayed and I ended up hypo before it arrived.

Thank you everyone for all the replies so far - I made sure I injected 15 mins or so before my breakfast this morning
10:04 injected
made cups of tea and toast etc for myself & my hubby
10:21 started to eat my toast

I changed from Humalog because it took so long to kick in. It felt like I had to pre bolus for the next days meals. Quite happy on Fiasp, so got the pre bolus down to 15 minutes. Whichever, if you don’t pre bolus you’re likely to spike to some degree, unless you are eating a seven course banquet.

I allways bolus when the food is infront of me and works fine but i do use fiasp insulin that works much faster also unless you are preparing your own food how do you know what carbs to count for allso my wife and me weigh and count all the carbs.

Their are times when I need to split my bolus because of pizza effect .
Then I have half first and the rest about half an hour later.
