A 15-year old Mariam Ali lives in Korogocho, one of the largest slums in east of Nairobi with her parents.

She would have been among the candidates who will be receiving their results for their final primary school national examinations next Wednesday.

However, due to complications arising from diabetes complications, Mariam was forced to drop out of Daniel Combori Primary School early this year after missing several classes while receiving medical attention.

Mariam has been living with diabetes for the last seven years. She was diagnosed with the condition at an early age of eight. She had drastically lost weight, was constantly thirsty and taking water and urinating a lot.

A visit to the doctor confirmed she had diabetes and she was put on Insulin. Since then she has had to live with an injection every day to manage the situation.
