Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Last year I was diagnosed with Type 2 reading 48. Had a blood test recently and was told that it had gone down to 46. Pre diabetic. I have had 2 TIA’s in the past with a mini stroke last year. My walking isn’t very good but I can manage a short distance. I can’t stand for a long time without having to sit/loo. Went to get veg and fruit shopping yesterday and the queues were around the car park. I am just over 70. I also had a toe amputated last year as it had become infected. Are my problems classed as vulnerable. I don’t want to take someone else place that needs it more. I can still drive but was refused Blue Badge. Have to have the door of car opened wide for me to get out so need space.

Hello @pedgeon and welcome to the forum.
Well done on your blood test results, you are doing well, and I am sure the healthy eating of veggies, and getting what exercise you can will have helped this.

I am not sure exactly what the criteria are for being classed as vulnerable, but it might be worth a try to see.
The recent call for volunteers to help vulnerable people got a much bigger response than they asked for, so I am sure there will be people available that could help you with shopping etc.

Another option near here is to use an app called 'Next Door' - (I am not sure it is available in all areas though.)
This links up with people in your local area, and on ours, they are running a scheme to link those that need shopping help etc to someone able to help them.

Please keep posting and let us know how it goes

My county council issued yesterday there information for dealing with those that are the vulnerable, They are calling it the Welfare Service, they are saying even if you are not on the list they got from the NHS, to contact them.
It maybe worth looking at your County Council website, to see what they are doing and contact them.

Many thanks will try and contact.

Welcome to the forum @pedgeon

Sorry to hear about your mobility issues. The current situation with shops and supermarkets needing to enforce ‘social distancing’ must be making things very difficult for you.

Alongside the suggestions you have already been given I wondered if there might be a local ‘mutual aid’ group set up. Hundreds of people have rallied round in this crisis to try to help those in their neighbourhood who need extra support.

Hope you find a source of support to see you through the next few weeks. And congratulations on your excellent A1c reduction.
