Hello
I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2010
I take one 500 mg Metformin at dinner time and have been for the last ten years.
My recent HBA1C was 63 & GP has advised me to have 3 times this dose
Im a bit gutted
The lockdown has not helped
Any advice?

As you get older your diabetes can get worse so your tablets will go up and I up 2000 grams a day so you got a long way to go.Might be good idea to make your own thread.

Hi @Mumtaz , welcome to the forum , I am going to ask @everydayupsanddowns to move your post to it’s own thread as you will get far more replies as it could get missed on out here

T2 doesn’t necessarily Get worse over the years, but it can .
Just to give you an idea of where you are on the Hb1ac scale have a look at this chart

To me that increase in Metformin all in on go does seem rather large but I am no medic.

What changes have you made to your dietary regime , if you wouldn’t mind giving us a typical days menu , we may well be able to suggest some changes

I have over the years found I have had to adjust what I eat a number of times. What I eat now is differnt to what worked for me 20 years ago.
So maybe you need to look at what you are eating.

Welcome to the forum @Mumtaz

Sorry to hear that your medication is needing to be increased. this isn't unusual, and it isn’t necessarily that you are doing anything wrong - some people’s needs simply change over time.

But the change isn’t necessarily always in one direction... and there could well be some additional strategies and tactics you could try to add to the effects of the increased medication.

As @grovesy says, it may be that the way your body dealswith carbohydrates has changed, and that reducing or swapping some of the sources of carbs in your diet could better suit your body now.

Do you have a BG meter, and have you ever used one to check before and 2hrs after a meal to see how your metabolism has reacted to it?

Good luck with the med change. Hope the increase doesn't cause any tummy troubles.

Let us know how you get on 🙂
