Hi Suze

I'm glad that the doctor is sorting blood tests out so quickly. I hope that you get results that help you with this. It's not much fun feeling tired all of the time so I hope that you get your energy back very soon x

Hi Suzie thanks for the update pleased the doc is getting the bloods sorted speedily, good luck when you get the results x

It could possibly be an under-active thyroid so it's really good you've got your blood test booked quickly as if it is your thyroid, the sooner you start treatment the better. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidsm at the age of 17 and T1 at 23. There is no particular age of onset. I was at college at the time of diagnosis and had been feeling really cold and tired for a few weeks until it got to the point that I literally couldn't get out of bed. The thyroxine took a while to work and to get the dosage right but it is easy to sort. I now take 125mcg daily and have been on this dose for a good while now with no problems.

I hope get to the bottom of the problem and feel much better soon.

ARGGGGGGGHHHHHHH

Results back last Friday, missed the call from the doc, rang the surgery back and the receptionist said I'd have to wait for a phone call on the Wednesday!

Why oh why do they love putting the fear of God in you by ringing a day after the test, make you think something terrible has been found and then make you wait for 5 days! I was telling myself all weekend that it was nothing or they'd speak to me there and then!

So on Wed I found out that I HAVEN'T got an underactive thyroid and that basically...i'm just getting fat!! 😱
Rude, cheeky doctor!

I have however got an iron deficiency which he wants to check in November.

As for the weight gain, he reckons I am possibly eating to match my insulin but it is clearly a Catch22 set up as the more weight I put on, the more insulin I need and then end up eating to match that insulin! ARGGGGGH ...where's that brick wall gone???????

In all honesty, I do really feel so down that diabulima is the only option....

Aw Suze, you know that's not a solution! :( As a simple first step (now you know it's not a thyroid problem) how about keeping a food diary and looking for ways to reduce carb content so you don't need as much insulin? You must lose the weight naturally and healthily so that you don't risk the far worse possibilities of complications. How about joining in with the Weight loss section for lots of encouragement? Remember we're here for you 🙂

How frustrating for you with the phone call. 😱

Would agree with Northerner and do the food diary. Then get your ratios as spot on as you can. Set yourself a calorie limit with less carbs in, so you can work out lower insulin doses which should keep your BGs stable.

If they don't, then tweak the ratios up or down slightly, but don't go more than one unit either way. If your BGs are too high, just cut down some of the carb and they go low, reduce your insulin slightly. Might take a few days and a lot of testing but you'll see results after a couple of weeks.

I was doing exactly that early last year and had to suffer smaller portions for a few weeks until my trousers fit me again. Now, my insulin doses are half what they used to be and I'm steady at a good, healthy weight and shape.

Good luck. 🙂

Rob
