hi i am female aged 58 and have been diagnosed type 2 for over 5 years, and still cant get to a grip with accepting that i have to completely change my way of life and try to have constant levels of results at home testing and also 6 monthly check up at the nurse. I just need a place that everybody i chat too, knows what i am trying to acheive and understands me.🙂

Welcome to the forum!

It can take some getting used to, but with a few small adjustments it is possible to live a normal happy healthy life alongside diabetes.

hi thanks for replying, i take 2 metformin morning and night and i also take statin at night, but i work shifts and always forget to carry night time tablets with me (iv just put a packet in my handbag for tomorrow) think i needed to say this out loud. This is going to be a new year and i am about to start from scratch and stop putting things of. I think this will help with people to talk too. I went to the nurse for fasting test results and she said the result was 62.5 and in June is was 36.2 i think this is the kick up the backside i need i lost 1 stone in weight in September for my daughters wedding in Vegas and now i think i have been to lax in bothering with my health because i feel fine
 
I think we all go through times when we have decent results, feel fine, and start to get a bit complacent - so good for you in deciding to get to grips with things! You've already shown that you can achieve it, your 36.2 (which I'm presuming is an HbA1c result, equivalent to 5.5%) was excellent, as was your weight loss, so you probably already know how much better you feel when you look after yourself properly 🙂

Exercise can really help, not just with blood sugar levels but also in making you feel much better about yourself, so if you can get in some regular activity that would be a big help. Setting a goal so you can have something to work towards would really help keep you motivated, and if you decide on one and tell us what it is we will hold you to it! 🙂

Well done for recognising you need to make the changes for your future health.

I can't really add to what Northerner's said. You know why you need to do it.

You could maybe make a list of all the key times and places you would struggle to drop the old habits and incorporate new ones. Then find small, manageable ways to modify your routine so that you can avoid some of the less healthy options and replace them with more positive ones.

for example, something as simple as chewing gum may help you to think less about snacking (if that's a problem). You could maybe find someone to have a regular stroll with so you can chat and exercise at the same time. A pedometer is a good purchase to bring a competitive element into walking. You'll find yourself trying to add steps all the time to beat previous targets.

Hee hee, I set myself daft targets when walking, like just to the next tree or lamp-post after I think, 'I've had enough now'. Pathetic really - but next time of course I get past that landmark before I'm cream crackered and so it goes on.

Hello and welcome to the forum. It is difficult to get to grips with sometimes, so this is a great place to be for support and infrmation and friendship. Ask as many questions as you like, no question is too silly or trivial if ithelps you understand what is going on andhelps things be better for you.
