Hi everyone, I found out about my diabetes a few days before my 60th birthday in February - not the best present! BUT, I’m doing just about everything I can to get those sugar levels right down. After 4 months I’ve changed my diet, lost over a stone, exercise more and don’t drink as much alcohol. I feel a lot better in myself and realise that the diagnoses was probably the best present I could have had. With the support of Diabetes Uk and all it has to offer, I hope to continue to stay as healthy as possible and control my diabetes. I’m in it for the long haul because diabetes is part of who I am now. Following a thread here I’ve bought Gretchen Beckers book which, in my humble opinion, is amazing. I’m booked for a DESMOND course next month which I’ve heard are great. Knowledge is empowering!

Wow, determined, focussed, open minded, open to change....looks like your on the road to success. It will be good to hear how you get on, both the successes and challenges.

Good luck

Congratulations on your weight loss and determination.
Sarah

Hi Sally M, welcome to the forum.

So glad to hear of all the progress you've made. Sounds as though you've made a great start, do let us know how you get on and if there's anything we can do to help.

You are doing great. Don't get too upset if the DESMOND course fails to live up to expectations. Depending on who gives it the reviews range from 'great' to 'a total waste of time'!
Fortunately you already know what has been working for your body. Trust your BG meter (if you have one).

You've made a great start.
Weight loss, exercise, cutting down on alcohol and eating less all worked for me.

I had an excellent Desmond course.
A lot depends on the attitude that people go in with I think, so it sounds like you should be ok.
