Hi loves
Wondering if anyone could assist with any ideas because I find myself in a bit of bother.
Prior to my diabetes 2 diagnosis, I would brag that I could easily neck 3+ litres of fluid a day. I was baffled when people asked how I could manage this volume of water intake, and would always reply that I felt like this was the minimum my body needed…? Nights where I’d glug down a load of fluid, I’d often jokingly say to my partner, “why do I love drinking so much, those poor people who can’t hydrate eh?!”
Obviously, I didn’t realise at the time that I was easily drinking this amount due to undiagnosed diabetes 2 and the constant thirst that came with that (and I was also peeing every 20 minutes).
Now I’ve been on metformin for a few months…..my need to drink, I feel is currently zero. I know I have to….but I just can’t do it. I fill up my litre water bottle in the morning and whereas previously I’d have looked forward to regularly drinking that over a few hours, I now look at it with absolute dread, thinking….how on earth am I going to get this down me…? Some days, I will only manage to drink 200-300mls a day. Today, it’s 6PM - I haven’t drank anything. I can’t believe I’ve went from being an apparent lover of hydration to having difficulties just taking on 100mls in one go.
I usually do mix a bit of natural/no added sugar cordial. Still…..it’s not appealing to me at all. I just don’t want to drink. I’m rarely thirsty, even after exercise.
I’m not sure if anyone’s had this issue and overcome it. If so, I’d love to hear your ideas because not hydrating is causing some havoc. In particular, I’m very low in mood and feeling sluggish. Also - my skin is dull, dry and flaking…..I look bloody terrible after so many weeks of limited fluids, I tell you.
For background, I don’t drink booze and haven’t for 20+ years.
Any tips appreciated!
Thank you - hope you’re all well 🙂
