Diabetes UK has welcomed the increase in the number of people in Milton Keynes receiving NHS Health Checks.

In Milton Keynes, 7.7 per cent of people aged 40 to 74 received an NHS Health Check during March to December 2013, according to a new report by the charity.

The report shows that just over 5,000 people people in Milton Keynes received one of the checks in the first nine months after responsibility for the programme, which assesses people for risk of Type 2 diabetes and other chronic conditions, switched from NHS to local government control.

The figures show a significant improvement on the previous year when no-one eligible in the county received a check and are now above the England average of 6.4 per cent,
