Hi every1 I'm new 2 this my name is Shaz. I have a question if any1 can help..if I use wheat & gluten free stuff & soya milk is it better better for me or will it be more carbs? I'm totally confused wiv how many carbs Im allowed each portion/day??

Hi Shaz, the amount of carbs per 100g should be on the packaging of the things you buy. We have quite a few members here with Coeliac disease who need to eat gluten-free, so you're not alone 🙂 As for the amount of carbs you can eat per day, I'm afraid there is no easy answer to that as it will vary from person to person - the guidline daily amount is something like 240g per day for a non-diabetic adult, but many people find that they need to stick to a much lower number in order to keep their blood sugar levels under control. The best way to find out what's right for you is to use a blood glucose meter to test before and one or two hours after eating to see what effect a particular meal has had on your levels. Have a read of Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter - they will help you to gain an understanding of what it's all about 🙂

Hi Shaz, welcome to the forum. Carbs tolerance really does seem to vary person to person, and also at differing times of the day.

I am more sensitive to carbs in the morning, but better later in the day. testing is the best way to find out for yourself.

Hi shaz and a warm welcome to the forum
