Hello I am Naomi and I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in December 2023

Hi, Naomi. Welcome to the Forum. How are you getting on managing your T2?

Hi @Naomi@76, and welcome to the forum!

On the one hand I'm sorry you have to be here, however the forum hivemind is a great place to get more information and support from on different things, so please don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have.

Hi and welcome to you both @Naomi@76 and @KernowKate

How are you both doing? Would you like to tell us how you came to be diagnosed and if you are on any medication for your diabetes?

Do feel free to ask any questions you have. A diabetes diagnosis can be pretty overwhelming at first and there is a lot of conflicting advice around diet which can be really confusing for newbies, so please ask about anything you don't understand. The key thing to bear in mind is that human bodies can be quite individual, so there is no one right answer for everyone with diabetes and you have to find what works for your body and your lifestyle and your tastes and that takes a bit of trial and improvement, but after a few months you should have a better idea of which approach will work for you.

Hi, yes, I have just found it and posted a reply.

Welcome to the forum @Naomi@76

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis :(

Had you been feeling poorly for a while, and went to the Dr because of some symptoms? Or was your diabetes found from a routine check-up, and came completely out of the blue?

Does anyone in your close family have diabetes?

How have you been finding things since December? Have you been offered any meds? Or have you been trying Diet & Exercise to begin with?

I'm finding it hard. I'm literally falling all the time. I can't bring my blood sugar below 9.5. Most of the time it's between 11-13

I am on Metformin. I hadn't been feeling right for a while. At first I was told I was perimenopausal. Because the symptoms are the same

Unless you have made some dietary changes metformin alone is unlikely to have a huge effect as it does not act directly on the food you eat but just helps the body use the insulin it produces more effectively and reduces the output of glucose by the liver. Have a look at this link for some ideas for modifying your diet. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/
