Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hello,

I'm new to type 1 diabetes,... mmm it's not been so much fun so far and I don't know anyone so am pleased to have found this site! By the way if anyone's based in london and is keen on running or wants to get fit I want to set up a running/ fitness group for diabetics... something to think about🙂 Also has anyone used a good dietician as I think this would help me manage my carb counting etc..?

Hi poppy meadows, welcome to the forum 🙂 You might be interested in contacting the North London Young Diabetics (NLYD) - I know that John, who started the group, is a keen runner - they have a Facebook page if you are on that - http://www.facebook.com/groups/115827781765066/ I'm a runner myself, although a bit far from London 🙂

What insulin regime are you on, and how did you come to be diagnosed?

Hi Poppy Meadows, Welcome to the forum, you will very nice and helpful people here, as regards to running, I'm running out of here now and that will be the extent of mine 🙂

John (Not the one on facebook :D )

Hi Poppy and a warm welcome to the forum

Hi Poppy. Welcome 🙂

You should have access to a dietician via your GP or clinic. If you're not keen on any you've seen, there should be one or two DSN's (diabetes specialist nurses) at your local hospital/clinic who would be able to run you through the basics and/or set you up with one that specialises in diabetes and can coach you in carb counting.

The usual route is to do a DAFNE course, or local equivalent, which is specifically designed for type 1s and teaches you carb counting along with a few other handy tips. 🙂

Hello Poppy and welcome - hope that you find the forums a useful place.

Hi Poppy. Welcome to the forum.

Definitely look up John and NLYD as Alan said, and depending on your age, the Circle D groups on facebook.

Welcome to the forum Poppy 🙂 There's lots of really good information here, and lots of lovely people too!

Hi Poppy a warm welcome to the forum xx 🙂

Welcome to the forum Poppy 🙂 x

Hi poppy,
Welcome to the forum🙂 I only joined yesterday and have found it really helpful already!
I did the Dafne course at the hospital for a week. The diabetic nurses sorted this out for me. Definitely worth trying it.
