although i have had type 2 for about 5 years and am on metformin, i have been avoiding the doctors and all the tests i am due. all i can say is that i am really worried and burying my head in the sand seems the easiest thing to do. however just lately it seems the metformin isnt enough and im really really tired etc all the time and pretty down....for all those who are up on the condition i can only say that i think you are very brave...i cant deal with it...its almost like i dont believe it......im normally quite up on everything else in my life..but this.........and books and stuff dont seem to help..i dont seem to be able to grasp the fundamentals..........

Hello Moonymama, welcome. There are lots of us T2s who have spent time ignoring it or hoping it will go away. There's plenty of help and support available here, so do ask anything you like.

You already know deep down that you need to go back to your GP to find out the current situation, so that you can take control and start feeling better. Getting on top of the problem will be so much easier when you know where you are, and if a different drug regime is what you need then so be it. Keep smiling! 🙂

Most of us have been like you Moonymama at sometime or other. Be brave and get yourself back to the doctors that's what i have just done 🙂.

Good luck 🙂

Welcome....I think a lot of t2 and t1 have all been through the whole burying
your head in the sand...I no I did at first and to be honest 7 months after being diagnosed my bg levels were always good and thought well they must have got it wrong I even stopped taking meds for a while then I did a random test after tea one day and thought omg they were pretty high compared to what I had been like, so I started taking meds again apx 4 months ago then started to feel good again, the problem is now I am on more meds and i think if i had taken more control over it i might have not have to had to take more meds now, so i really do think you need to see your diabetes nurse a.s.a.p.
We all have ups and downs but the bravest thing you can do is to see someone and take control 🙂
Good luck!

Think we have all been there at some point, for some its denial that they have diabetes or they just don't get the support that's needed especially in the early days.

Other like myself faced constant bad advice / help from doctors saying no need worry and we will mange your condition and let you know when there's a change :( . If any doc says that now, I would take it with a pinch of salt, as I found out the hard way most of the doctors I have seen don't care about the person and their diabetes.

Following on a change to my condition which made things worse for me and the total lack of care by the doctors. I took control back from the doctors, and refuse to see some of them, I am now getting back on track.

Real shame as it should not be that way....what does seem clear to me is that doctors really don't have enough knowledge about the condition or simply have not got the time or just don't give a dam....I no it's not like that every where but form a lot of threads I read this does seem to be the case

I was told that one of the doctors that I refuse to see is supposed to be a diabetic specialist. :( :(

I now ask for a doctor who shows care and at least shows an interest in what's going on with the patients. The only problem in a very short while word gets around that a doctor is good, then it gets hard to get an appointment.

No one here thinks you are a wimp at all!!! it's wonderful you have perked up and are taking it head on...good for you 🙂 good luck and let us no how it goes!

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on getting your bloods done. I've been diabetic for 42 years and there are still times when I want to avoid the doctors - but there is nothing better than finding that you are getting control and that the numbers are coming down🙂

You really aren't alone in your feelings - I was diagnosed in December and immediately lost a stone - just went right off food and felt unwell - it's crept back on again as I've sneaked a little choc and crisps and other junk food - we all want to be like everyone else but we're not and at least we're lucky enough to live in a country where we can be diagnosed - now the responsibility lies with ourselves - no-one else can make changes in our lives.
Have a look at Maggie Davey's letter - it's very sensible and practical - I'm going to see my doc this week about self-testing so I can decide what I need to do in terms of food - it's not going to be easy as I have a really sweet tooth but if it keeps me healthy for longer then I'd be pretty daft not to do it - I want to retire in 14 years time to the coast with 2 border collies - I'm going to need to be pretty fit and healthy to look after them. Good luck
