Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Ok I'm hot headed & not a slim type 1 but still

My mate rang asking me to meet her at a book shop as she thought she had found the insulin pumping book I wanted, so off I go to meet her.

When I got there, it was the wrong book & I said so.
A member of staff asked which one it was I as after so I said & this rude teenager said if I wasn't fat, I wouldn't be diabetic!!!

I'm sorry but to look at any diabetic & assume what type they are is ignorant but this kid really got my back up.

Think kids need educating on the different types not the one the media love to talk about (sorry type 2's) but I've had enough of 2 people at work assuming what I can & can't do but I've had enough of my diabetes & have done for awhile

Well your a good girl for not giving her a slap. Even if you was T2 its nothing to do with her, people drink, smoke dont exercise, they dont look at what they are doing to there health, just at others. Plus on TV all they go on about is "if your overweight your at risk" There no education out there.

It took me all my time not to rip the kids's head off but my mate said she's type 1 leave her alone.

I remember my biology lessons at school & nothing was said on diabetes. I was newly diagnosed at the time & there was another girl in my class who was type 1 & we both wanted info but got none

that's horrendous!!! I cannot believe someone would actually say that... for me that is as bad as racism... Well done you for not saying anything, although I would have made a complaint to the library. Admittedly I don't think diabetes education really exists for anyone not connected to it, but even if she thought that it was completely out of order to say it... grrrr, I'm angry on your behalf

xx

Whilst I can understand his lack if knowledge (I knew nothing about it before diagnosis in spite of family history), the rudeness is outrageous.
