Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi,
I have type 2 diabetes, controlled using medication of tablets and injection.
in the last year of so i went through a controlled trial of Victoza, which suited me. The trial was excellent, full of advice etc.
After a period on this i was asked if i'd like to try another injection,Ozempic, semiglutide, now after weeks of building up the dose i'm now taking 1mg injection a week. It's amazing, i feel much better with in myself, have finally lost that constant thist for fuild and constant heavy sweating, also it's curbed my eating, causing 13kgs weight loss in about 8months.
I still have a blood sugar reading of around 7.5 first thing i've still some work to do.
Another thing is i am disabled with cronic arthritus/damage to my spine. My abilty to walk is extremely limited (40mts) and due to my spine being unstable any other form of exercise is out.
I take Morphine 80mg a day, plus many other pain killers.
Along with the above i have high blood pressure again controlled with medication.
There you have it, i struggle with my choice of food, i can't shop, my wife does all that.
we only eat fresh vegatabls, salads, fish, chicken, some beef, wheatbread, pasta, rice.no sugar for me, very low carbs, steam all veg. Black coffee. sugar free squash (cannot abide the taste of sweetners, anybody know of alternatives) 1 pint of ale a night, and the odd large Gin and tonic.
Any advice on foods, drinks etc please feel free.
Thanks for reading

Hello and welcome to the forum. 🙂 Sounds very sensible to me.Glad you can get away with wheatbread, rice and pasta.

Hi and welcome to the forum. 🙂

You confuse me me though with your opening post, you say your diet is very low carb, but say you eat rice and pasta? For me that would put my readings very high, even a little. I know I am very easily confused and am perhaps misunderstanding, but would mind explaining to me? We are are all very different in how we react to different carbs of course and your mileage may vary to mine. 🙂

Hello Splodge (love the name). I agree with Greymouser, rice and pasta are normally no goes for most of us as they are dense carbs. My levels go through the roof just thinking about pasta, which I love, though can manage a little rice on occasion. Other than that your diet looks excellent.
I’m so sorry you have your other problems as well and sounds as though you are doing a grand job managing your diabetes on top of all that.
Welcome to the forum. Sue x

Welcome to the forum @Splodge 🙂

And congrats on the weight loss!

Glad your new medication is working well for you. Do you check your BG levels? Third is often associated with high glucose levels.

I was just wondering whether you had seen a BG improvement with you new medication.
