iBGStar - compatibility with iPhone 5??

Hi all,

I have an iPhone 4 and I'm due for an upgrade. I currently use an Aviva nano but I've been wanting to switch to an iBGStar as I'm currently having to log my readings manually in my logbook and then having to transfer the information to my wonderful excel sheet (boring!). My questions are :

1) is it true that the iBG star is only compatible with the iPhone 4 and 4gs ? (seems crazy as the iPhone 5 has been around for a while?!)

2) for those of you who use the iBGstar - does it make life and diabetes management any easier?

3) and finally......does anyone know of any other meter that allows you to download the information electronically?? (i.e. if I dont get the iBGstar are there other options available?)

lots of questions, I know!......but thanks so much in advance, any tips / pointers greatly appreciated!

Don't know about the iphone as never owned one. Regards other meters if you mean one that you can run reports. The contour next usb is a good meter.

I was offered an iBG Star just before it launched in the UK, I really liked the app and syncing, but the meter itself was rather less than accurate for me (though I know others who seem to get on OK with it). Bottom line - I couldn't use it.

My Accu-Chek Mobile has a USB port and you can plug it in a run the built in reports or export the data and do with it what you please in Excel! I actually export the data into excel and then create an XML file to upload the data to my favourite diabetes tracking app (OnTrack but its only for Android).

There is a extend bit u can buy for iPhone 5 so u can us a bg star this is what u need

It's called a 30 pin converter adapter u get it from apple around?25 that's what the makes of the bg star recommend

Everydayupsandowns : I read your review and I must say the lack of accuracy with the iBG star doesnt sound very appealing at all!.
I think the Bayer Contour Next USB meter is in the lead and I understand from Northerner's post in one of the old threads that the strips are available on the NHS so I think I'll go for that one!!

I have an IBGstar and I have to say, up until now, i've been really happy with it. Although i can't get the test strips where i live, so i have to stock up when i'm home. I always use the app though, no matter which meter i'm testing with, as without it, i find my control slips. (I'd love to not have to, but sadly i'm one of those people who needs to see the numbers every day, to see a trend). I particularly like the small blood sample size required for this meter.

I'm slightly concerned about the inconsistencies everydayupsanddowns found though. I did a handful of comparisons when i first got it, and the differences were negligible compared to my one touch mini, so I happily plodded on. I shall do a wee bit more testing, methinks!!
