Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I’m 57yrs male weigh in at 22st diagnosed type 2 not given any advice and I also have COPD and sleep apnea. I was fine until I was 50 then it’s gone hill from there. Never smoked or been a user of alcohol. I try and walk GP stated easy keep fit type of activity. I know I need to get my weight down as it effects my mental health I look uncomfortable and feel it. I know it will benefit me for my diabetes and COPD but I loose hope as when I try and walk my lower back really hurts and I suffer from shin splints. Perhaps I’m just feeling sorry for myself and feel at times just let nature take it’s course. I can feel my mood dipping again

Personally I find that controlling my blood glucose levels is the only thing which has a significant effect on my mood, my weight and my diabetes.
Have you got a blood glucose monitor so you can check your levels after eating?

Welcome to the forum @MarkG

Exercise can be so important, but it can be tricky to kmow where to start. Would something slightly lower impact like cycling or maybe swimming be a possibility (once facilities are open)

There is currently a programme called ‘Live well, move more’ which can give you really practical help and support to get active

You can find out more about it there are details here

@Francesca DUK would love to hear from you!

Welcome to the forum @MarkG
Very pleased that you are found us.

Do have a read around the forum and ask any questions that arise.
Nothing is considered silly on here. Just ask.

Right - so walk until you absolutely cannot walk any further, then stop sit and rest for 10 minutes (either take a folding chair with you or sit on someone's front wall, in a bus shelter, on a park bench whatever.) Then turn round and walk back even if that involves more than one stop to rest. Tomorrow repeat. Same every day until you think I can walk a bit further even if it's just a few steps more. Keep doing the same again because if you stop completely at some stage, you'll just stay stopped. Boring? Oooh yes, it's boring. But! - you keep moving!
