When Karen Lynch?s doctor told her she had diabetes she was too stunned to take in the news. ?I had never had a major illness and I was probably at my fittest, riding daily and running 10k races with my husband Scott,? says Karen, 43, from Tadley, Hampshire.
Two weeks before her diagnosis Karen, then 37, had started experiencing chronic thirst, headaches and blurred vision. Tests showed that her blood sugar levels were dangerously high.
Karen says: ?I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and within hours I was injecting insulin and trying to come to terms with what was going on. The diabetic nurse explained all about the condition but I felt overloaded with information and struggled to comprehend it.?
