'I tried to book my Covid vaccine and the call operator was an anti-vaxxer'

Last week the vaccine rollout reached a new milestone, with the jab being offered to 25-30 year olds for the first time.

As a 25-year-old yet to be vaccinated, I was eager to jump onto the opportunity to finally get jabbed up.

But when I rang the 119 vaccine booking service at 7am sharp last Tuesday, I certainly didn’t expect the call operator to tell me that the pandemic was a conspiracy.

Last Tuesday was one of the busiest days for the 119 services, as the NHS said that a record-breaking number of vaccine appointments were booked for people aged 25+.

There was a “Glastonbury-style” surge of traffic on the NHS website, officials said.

And yet, my call operator spent 35 minutes of their precious time telling me it was only an "apparent" pandemic we are in and that they were disappointed that the majority of the United Kingdom has been "fear-led and has had the fear of death put into them."

😱 :(

It’s a booking service! It’s not the place to have a long discussion. If I ring up to book tickets to something, I expect to be sold tickets, and speedily, not engaged in conversation. Booking slots are like gold dust. If you rang to try and secure tickets to a cup final would you expect the call handler to engage you in any sort of conversation about the rights and wrongs of football while you knew that other people were getting through and snaffling the last tickets?

Being somewhat phone-phobic, I'd rather not speak to a person at all! 😱 🙂

I'd complain to whoever she worked for - not the Press.

She did.
The person who handled her call is now out of that job as a result.

Not sure why the media whoring though but then it does seem to be a modern phenomenon.
