Hello all,

Just been diagnosed with type 2 after a year of thirsts and other symptoms. Read all the info. and got my Metformin and Simvastafin. Then had McDonalds for dinner.....two Quarters plus shake ( no fries ).

Must get serious, any advise?

Rich.

Hi Richard and welcome , well without sounding rude start having helthier lunches , All of us find it hard at first to cut out the sweet and the fats and all the good things but it has to be done if we are to live a long and healthy lifestyle.

Rich, welcome aboard!

You said it yourself, "get serious", all I'd say is try and not do too much at once, and stick around here, lots of advice and friendly people and people who have "been there"

Best of luck,

Rossi:D

Hi Rich, welcome to the forum🙂 You've made a good start by joining here! As Rossi says, don't try to change too much at once - it's a marathon not a sprint. Cutting back on the fat and sugar is a good start - I'm sure that there are meals you enjoy that are healthy, you just need to start eating them more often than the unhealthy stuff. If you are able, try to find some form of activity that you will enjoy - walking, cycling, swimming are all good, but just something that you can give some time to regularly. This will help to keep your blood sugar levels lower, as well as making you fitter.

It's a good idea to start looking into Low GI (Glycaemic Index) foods - seeded bread, porridge/oatmeal, pulses (like beans, lentils, kidney beans etc.). These foods release glucose more slowly into the blood stream, avoiding 'spikes' when your levels can shoot up beyond your desired range. Try and avoid refined foods - white bread and pasta, sugary foods generally, although you are allowed treats!

Best of luck, anything you're not sure of, please ask🙂
