Hi all

I have been to see my diabetes team today and they have put me onto insulin. 4 injections a day to be precise, with 2 different types of insulin. I have also been told to continue taking 4 tablets of Gliclazide as well.

Feeling like a human pin cushion, slightly sore but keeping everything crossed that these bloods come down and I start to feel better.

Ruby 🙂

Thanks for letting us know, was wondering how you are. Are they now saying you are type one? I hope you feel much better soon and you get all the support you need.

Hi New Journey, thanks for your reply. Yes they are still thinking type 1, especially with my family history I am awaiting a consultant referral and blood test.

Good news Ruby. Hopefully you'll start to feel much better. What insulins are you on?

The insulin should do the trick. I'm glad they've got you on it.

Thank you all. I hope it works too. Must get in a routine. I wasn't expecting 4 injections a day.... Bit of an inconvenience... Not sure how I feel about injectiing when out and about... Not a huge fan of public toilets... Yuk!
Still, if I start to feel better it'll be worth it!

Good news 🙂 they have recognised your needs 🙂 Keep pushing for more information 🙂

Hi. Glad they have you on insulin now, when your levels come down you’ll start to feel better. Imo it’s better to be on MDI (multiple daily injections) like you are rather than the mixed mixed insulin as that can be very restrictive as to when you eat.

No best not to inject in loos, many of us test and inject discretely in public or at the table in a restaurant etc.

So glad they have finally put you onto insulin. You should start to feel better really soon.
The injections do seem daunting at first, but it becomes routine, and as Northie says, do not feel like you have to hide away when doing them - you will find that generally people don't even notice🙂

Absolutely no need to go and hide away to do an injection, and a toilet does not sound a good place at all. I found no one noticed when I did mine. The only problem I had was on our first outing after diagnosis, I was shaking so much when doing it I dropped the pen!! New needle and then managed it.

I'm so pleased they've put you on insulin at last, @Ruby Red 🙂 - I'm sure it will make a big difference to how you feel.
Injections will soon go from feeling daunting to being a minor inconvenience, honestly - and I speak as a card-carrying needle-phobe! Sometimes I even choose to have an extra injection (never thought I'd say that!) so I can eat some cake or something mid-afternoon ...

Please don't inject in public toilets, that's very unhygenic. I used to nip out and inject in my car when I was first diagnosed so I didn't have to do it somewhere where other people could see. Now I think if it bothers them it's their problem - they don't have to look! I inject in my legs and buttocks when I'm at home so I can keep my abdomen for any injections I have to do in public.

Oh no, don’t go to the toilet to inject - public / restaurant toilets aren’t always the cleanest and you don’t want your food going cold...and what if there’s a queue?! Good luck with the new regime.😛

Thank you all for the helpful comments. My sugars are really coming down, 9 today and ketones 0.2. Other half even commented that I looked brighter today! Big test will be from Monday when I go back to work. I've had a week of leave and a week working at home.

I'm not going to inject in the loo, I've made my mind up about that! Discretion by my desk will do, like someone said people don't have to look!

Diabetic nurse hasn't mentioned carb counting, but I'm looking in to it for my own benefit. I'm determined to get this under control properly My legs are pretty useless but I like them! My biggest fear is losing them through complications of diabetes.

Best wishes to all
Ruby
