I was taken off humilin I 3 days ago and put on novomix 30, then ring the care team for dosage well they are short staffed and even my gp is struggling to get a response from them. I'm too scared to eat as I'm going really high as just hit 31.4 mmol. It's been rising even on humilin I it went to 28.0 with half a plate of vegetables, quarter meat and quarter wholemeal carbs or sweet potato it's not like I'm eating cakes etc. How can I stop this happening over the weekend? Zero carbs or fasting or I'll end up in a&e like before I went on insulin. Novomix 30 sitting in my fridge whilst I'm sky high. My stomach is asking for food and I'm starving literally. I'm type 2, skinny and thinking that diagnosis Is wrong.

@Tigergirl . I am sorry to hear this , you must be feeling dreadful with such terribly high levels

You probably don’t want to hear this let alone do it, but I really think you need to go to A&E now . Please don’t drive yourself and if you are feeling dreadful call an ambulance.

Please let us know how you get on, because we do worry

I agree that with levels in the 30s you need to be thinking about hospital.
If you have insulin available but just haven't been told how much to take and your GP practice are not able to help, then try the diabetes helpline at your local diabetes clinic (usually a voicemail service and being as the weekend is looming you may not get a response before next week so maybe try ringing 111 (if you really don't want to go to hospital) but I think that may be the best place when your levels are that high. In the meantime please drink plenty of water to help flush it out of your system.
Do you have any means of testing ketones? You should be able to buy Ketostix over the counter from your local pharmacy for about £5 to test your urine for ketones if you haven't been given any. If it shows you have ketones then you need to get to hospital pronto, no ifs or buts.

It does sound likely that you have been misdiagnosed and are possibly Type 1 or LADA and need much better support and a new insulin regime. It really is dangerous with such high readings and even if you eat low carb or nothing at all over the weekend, your levels could still rise due to output from the liver.... Please push to get professional help with this tonight and please let us know how you get on.

Sorry to hear you are still struggling @Tigergirl - you were losing weight in January- has it been continuing since then?

It does sound like you could do with a review from the hospital clinuc who will have more experience of the more niche types
