The mum-of-two was so scared of developing type two diabetes and possibly losing her sight that she went on a rapid-weight-loss plan.

Claudia was told she had an increased risk of developing the condition because during both of her pregnancies she had suffered from gestational diabetes.

As with type one and two diabetes, gestational diabetes occurs when there is a higher level of sugar in the blood.

Usually this level of glucose is controlled by the hormone insulin.

But because of increased levels brought on during pregnancy there is insufficient insulin to cope and the amount of sugar in the blood rises.

Gestational diabetes affects five per cent of all pregnancies in the UK, statistics suggest.

I haven't bothered reading it. Well if you have 7 stone to lose, anything that makes you lose it is brilliant.

But why would it stop her getting T2 ? I don't think GD is brought on by overweight, do you? So why would any T2 that arises following GD, be prevented by being thin.
