I had visitors yesterday so I had a baguette and milk in the fridge this morning. Tried a couple of Weetabix and the 3 half inch slices of baguette with Lurpak and the slightest smear of Jam. I was expecting a 14 spike on the BG monitor. Managed an all time high of 20.2. an hour later and now 9.2 two hours later. Best not do that again.
It was delicious! Forgive me - I have sinned.

Calling it a sin implies judgement, none of us should be judging others choices, especially when it come to diet and diabetes. The point of the forum is support not judgment so I have no comment other than I’m glad it was delicious

You’re allowed the occasional treat - and at least the blood sugars went down again quite quickly - so glad you enjoyed it!

I agree...bagette, lurpak and jam mmmmm

@lordburnside I would say not a sin but realisation, and good your using a BG monitor to help you understand what foods cause the high levels in your blood sugars.

Most of us have been there and done that. Glad you enjoyed your little sin :D
Sounds delicious. As long as it doesn't become a daily habit it's not a problem.

I always feel sorry when people express guilt about eating something they enjoy and that others eat without thought.
Eating nice food is not a sin. It is a pleasure.

Constantly eating food that negatively affects our health is not a pleasure and is very different to the occasional treat.

The other thing to remember is that CGMs are renowned to be inaccurate when high. I would not trust that 20.2 on your Libre. It is very likely to be over-egged.

Wouldn't worry about it. I went out yesterday for lunch and had curry and rice with pakora. I didn't bother counting carbs.
It was delicious.

When General Napier conquered the province of Sindh in India he is claimed to have sent a one word telegram in Latin to the War Office …. ‘Peccavi’ ….’I have sinned’.

@lordburnside What is life without a treat?
The trick is keeping them a treat, not a habit 🙂

That's seems more like scientific research than sin, tbh!

I think the important thing is that you enjoyed it. I'm more resentful of high blood sugars if I didn't even enjoy the thing that sent them high!

I think of baguette are pretty much a hypo treatment these days.

So good though!

Ah, but did you enjoy it?

And today I, ahem, accidentally had a omelette that came with a large portion of chips.
I thought it would be rude not to eat them. (It was followed by a long walk around Coventry, though, exploring some old relics.)

Hard to believe the remains of this abbey is a stone's thrown from the city centre and set in a nice park still with the medieval walls around it and a small river!

It don’t look like you coveted your neighbour’s baguette or bore false witness to a preserve. 😉

Isn't waste a sin and if you hadn't eaten it, it might have wasted.

I nearly landed myself in hospital due to the sin of gluttony when I was first diagnosed before I got insulin. I ate a whole sharing pack of sea salt and balsamic Jacob's crackers and hit 27mmols (finger prick). I had to drink pint after pint of water right through the night and managed to get it down to 22mmols by the morning. My heart was pounding like a steam train most of the night. Not sure if it was the high BG or panic or guilt that I had been such a glutton (comfort eating) but was so relieved that I didn't have to go to hospital to get help and have to confess my sin!

Anyway, let he who is without sin, cast the first stone!
