Hi all

my worst fears came true when i had a postive test result for covid on the 13th October i cannot tell you how ill i have been i cannot remember much about the first two weeks, but im still not right and currently off work i work in ambulance control and not been out anywhere else so guess i caught it from there, i have had a tempreture of 39 rashes and i could not walk or get out of bed thankfully i did not need to go to hospital, i am concerned if there are any long term problems and i am still a bit weak but i am getting a bit better and my appetite is coming back, i have been really worried being type 2 diabetic but i am hopeful, i was due a eye test before corona and since having corona seems when i look at the tv seems a bit blurry with glasses on ok for reading but there not for tv so when better will have to make a eye test appointment whether it is covid related i dont know as i say i was due a eye test anyway. i am hopefully going back to work next week been off nearly five weeks now i am just hopeing im ok i hear people are dying 28 days after a positive test i am not up to 28 days yet but i have got to try and stop worrying as that wont help me will it, i am trying my best to get there and i am greatful for everyday thanks

So sorry to hear of your diagnosis @Jan1967

So scary and understandable that you are concerned about the cancelled tests. As you recover keep chasing the missing tests, keep a watch on your levels as they tend to play havoc when we are unwell.

Keep asking if there are any specific questions and let us know how you get on.

i hear people are dying 28 days after a positive test
the data can be a bit misleading, it doesn't mean they died because of Covid it just means they have passed on within 28 days of a positive test so may not be their COD or even related to it

The 28 days does not mean they died of Covid, just that it is within 28 days of a positive test. I think that this is needless scarmongering as it could be something completely unrelated. Dying of Covid is different from dying from something else. Please try not to worry and i hope you get well soon.

I hope you’re now well on the path to recovery @Jan1967

Look after yourself and take things slowly.

Sorry to hear you have been so ill. I hope you keep recovering and wish you all the best, take care.

Hi Jan.

So very sorry to hear you have been so ill.

Do you have a Blood Glucose meter to monitor your own BG levels? If not it might be worth getting one.... they can be purchased online relatively inexpensively (approx £15 for a basic kit). Here on the forum we mostly recommend the SD Gluco Navii or the Spirit Healthcare Tee2 as being the cheapest to run and reliable.

It may be that your BG levels are raised, possibly as a result of the Covid and high BG is a likely cause of your sight problems, so being able to check would be helpful. It is also a useful tool to test your reaction to food and help you to tailor your diet to manage your diabetes. Many people here find it invaluable in getting their diabetes management under control..... apologies if you already know this and test regularly.

Hope you fully recover soon but I think it is reasonably safe to assume you are over the worst. As others have said, the 28 day thing is just a cut off point for death statistics, not that 28 days is a period that you are likely to die from it.

Please keep us updated with your progress and take care.

Thanks all what i did forget to mention is whilst i was ill with the worst of it i could not keep my medication down was being sick, so that may have messed my blood sugar up, i am back on all meds now but not sure how long it will be before it takes proper effect been back on them about a week so ill see how it goes ill let you know thanks Jan

Oh no! Sorry to hear that you’ve been struck down with the virus @Jan1967

Sounds like you had it pretty nastily.

Best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery.
