I really feel for you having to fight your own corner for something you ought to be entitled to, you have enough going on adapting to this new treatment regime.
Stick to your guns and have faith in yourself. Always remember, if this was someone else you were hearing about you would want to be an advocate for them - it's often harder to fight for yourself than for others, but you deserve the appropriate care. Would that nurse be prepared to be accountable for any serious untoward incident you got into because you didn't have the equipment to test your BG's ? (I bet not 🙄)

Best of luck x

Why not phone your GP today and ask for an urgent ring back? Refuse to say what it's about if they try and put you off. Say it's mega urgent and you need to speak to them ASAP. Rant at them direct now and DEMAND some more strips TODAY. Hopefully then they will put out a new prescription you could hopefully collect before they close for the weekend.

Ultimately your GP can override the DN I would have thought. I 100% support that with driving/motorcycle too you MUST LEGALLY test, so you need strips for that alone, without any of the rest.

We have never yet faced this situation but it makes my blood boil each time I read about it. Even if you weren't on insulin, you really do need the tools with which to manage the condition to the best of your ability. Adding insulin in just makes it even more important.

I do hope you get some satisfaction, and quickly.

Where do the NHS go to find these people? Are there recruitment companies that specialise in the short sighted need to get their heads out of their backsides types?

I though those in the medical profession were taught and make some sort of pledge to do what is right for the patient and not what is right for the bean counters.

I feel your pain mate, make sure you give them some grief.

I would also buy a second meter as a spare, meter is around ?7 on amazon + any P&P, which you can leave one at home and one at work or carry with you, though the shortage of strips might give you some problems with this, as you would need to have strips with each meter.

I can't add much to all the good advice given. I hope your letter works Jalapino.

But I just wanted to say, don't buy a spare. Ring the company who makes your glucose monitor and request a second one. As soon as they know you're on insulin, they will send you a free one, including a pot of (usually) 10 strips.
Or if you're not happy with the one you have, ring other companies to ask for one

Funny you should say that I have requested another meter so I can have one at work and home.....like northerner said maybe I will get unlimited strips if I give up my meter!!!!! lol :D

Hope your letter gets the results you need. Really feel for you, keep us up to date with how it goes.

Thank you flutterby it is amazing the support I have had of all of you on this forum! you are all truly amazing! 🙂
