I couldn’t move my legs for an hour

On Tuesday I couldn’t move my legs for an hour but could wriggle my toes. It took quite a while after the hour before I could bit by bit move them. I then went upstairs but couldn’t lift my right leg onto the top stair - fortunately my partner was there to help me. Legs went back to normal but a little later I couldn’t move them at all but fortunately again got back to normal and then it happened again. We had a five hour wait at A&E by which time my legs were back to normal. They confirm it wasn’t a stroke (which I knew), not a trapped nerve or neurological. They discharged me with no scans or diagnosis but said it might be my spine. They also haven’t sent a report or blood test results to my GP.
I was meant to see my GP arbour it today but cancelled as couldn’t cope with yet another medical appointment.
I have MRIs booked in January for my brain, neck and lumbar spine. Hope they will give answers that don’t invoke surgical intervention (A&E did say that MRI might show that I need further assessment by a neuro surgeon.
I guess other possibilites are my silent migraines or my CFS/ME. (A&E didn’t suggest these are possibilities when they referred to my “leg paralysis).
It was very scary.

Oh no! I just replied to your other thread, as hadn't seen that before and now you have another scary health issue! Really hope they can get to the bottom of your problems and find some treatment to help. Sending even more (((HUGS))).

Sorry to hear you had such a scary health episode @AJLang and that A&E weren't much help. Fingers crossed your MRI in January will help find a cause. Wishing you well.

Thank you very much everyone xx

That sounds both scary and inconvenient. I hope you get some answers as to why things like this are happening to you.

Sounds scary, I’ve had similar as I woke up one morning over 6 weeks ago unable to use my right arm. Hadn’t considered my CFS/ME but seems likely a nerve getting compressed at the bottom of my neck for me.

So sorry to read this Amanda. I hope that you don’t have a recurrence, and that the MRI in Jan helps shed some light on the causes.

Oh my goodness @AJLang - that must have been really frightening for you. Thank goodness your lovely partner was there to help.

Good to hear it wasn’t a stroke, or neurological. Hope the MRI gives an indication as to what may have caused it, and that it was only a one-off, and won’t require surgery or anything

Thank you very much everyone. Now that I've had time to rest and reflect I've had a chance to reflect on what's been happening. I've now realised that the pins and needles/tingling in the top half of my body has been going on for several weeks as has the must worse fatigue than normal, easily sleeping 14 hours a day spread over two or three chunks. Overall fatigure is much much worse than it is normally is for my CFS/ME.
I also couldn't move my legs again for nearly an hour on Saturday.
I wasn't well enough for my GP last Friday so I've made another appointment for November 18th. I also emailed my NHS neurologist last night and received an email this morning saying that someone will be in contact with me soon.

Very scary and worrying indeed, do hope you get it sorted and the MRI give you the answers.

In the past I had severe leg cramps or spams lying down in bed in the morning, so I would get and walk and they would feel better. However,6 months ago I have two experiences where my leg feels paralysed and agonising with pain if I move or try to stand up, but ly down and give it 10 mins it goes away. I wanted to dial 999. Anyway a few days later somebody told me it was dehydration, so every evening before I go to bed I drink water, weird that it's not happened since, which if course am grateful for, but not100% sure it is dehydration.

Cramps can be because you electrolyte balance is a bit off or magnesium is low also as you mention dehydration.
I have found magnesium gel helpful for cramp, you don't need much but rubbed in and allowed to absorb.
I was away the other weekend and had the most vicious cramp from the top of my leg right down to my feet, it took ages to go, it goes without saying I didn't have the gel but I definitely hadn't had as much to drink as usual. It was punishment for having pizza which I haven't had in 3 years.

Oh no.

I define cramps as the bit where I get up and move and so am then fine.

The experience we are all talking about is definitely the whole leg and you feel paralysed and excruciating pain! So it could be the imbalance as you mention, but by God do you feel it, and I have high pain threshold and it is an experience I want to get again.

Pizza, yummy you making me hungry!!
